Job Title: Quality Inspector

Location: Derby

Salary: £15.98 per hour + shift allowance

Contract: Permanent

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:00am – 6:00pm

Role Overview – Quality Inspector

We’re working with a well-established, high-precision manufacturing business to recruit a Quality Inspector to join their operations in Derby. This is a key role responsible for ensuring product quality, compliance, and consistency across the full manufacturing lifecycle.

Operating within a highly regulated environment, the business delivers complex components into demanding industries where accuracy and reliability are critical. You’ll play a pivotal part in supporting a strong “right first time” culture while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Working closely with cross-functional teams including production and engineering, you will ensure that all components meet required specifications, identify quality issues, and support improvement activities to enhance both processes and products.

Key Responsibilities – Quality Inspector

  • Carry out inspection and verification of components at all stages of the manufacturing process
  • Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
  • Identify, report, and support resolution of non-conformances and recurring quality issues
  • Assist with root cause analysis activities (e.g. 5 Whys, Ishikawa)
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within quality and inspection processes
  • Collaborate with internal departments to improve product quality and efficiency
  • Ensure adherence to ISO standards including ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001
  • Promote a strong quality-focused culture and safe working practices across the business

Key Experience & Qualifications – Quality Inspector

  • Experience within a Quality Inspector or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Hands-on experience using inspection equipment such as verniers, micrometers, bore micrometers, height gauges, and DTIs
  • Experience inspecting machined, fabricated, treated, or assembled components
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Good IT and documentation skills
  • Understanding of ISO quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001)
  • CMM experience advantageous but not essential
  • Experience in a highly regulated sector such as aerospace or automotive is beneficial

My client is on the lookout for an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join the team. You will have the opportunity to work on one of their leading supermarket contracts.

Overview: Responsible for managing the work orders across the machine shop including creating, reviewing, monitoring progress with production and workcentre capacity. Role includes an active involvement with the reviewing, setting and ongoing maintenance of the inventory model linking closely with the wider planning team and also in calculating requirements for new projects.

Responsibilities: 

Ensure business system (MRP signals and/or Cognos reports currently) are actioned daily and both machines and workcentres planned effectively to meet the demand requirements.Review the production plan with the production team to aim to achieve a balance of productivity and efficiency with delivering what is required when it is needed.Ensure all shortages are reviewed, progressed and escalated accordingly with the machine shop planning administrator, and seek to identify the root cause analysis for these shortages.Be able to discuss with production to jointly deliver the daily / weekly production plans and monitor daily performance against plan.Run reports to highlight capacity issues and present options with production team and team leader to resolve capacity constraints.Monitor on time delivery of all work orders and expedite and reschedule open manufacturing orders to meet production planning requirements.Actively participate in the weekly item setting review sessions (IC Watch list reviews) and the regular inventory quality management (IQM) review process together with the rest of the planning team.Support new production introduction projects by calculating & presenting machine shop production scenarios to provide recommendations of how best to deliver the projects.Work together within the Planning team and potentially other departments (Goods Receiving (GRB) and the Distribution Centre) to optimise the batch sizes and MOQs throughout machine shop.

Requirements: 

Relevant Planning experience in a production environmentExperience with MRP Tools & processesExperience analysing large datasets to identify supply, demand, and inventory trends that inform planning decisions (desirable)Hands on experience using data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel modelling) to improve forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency (desirable)
