Job role: Mechanical Fitter

Shift: Dayshift (37 Hours)

A great opportunity to join an established, respected manufacturing business in Bristol. My client is looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join their expanding team. You will work out of their purpose-built facility located in Bristol, 15 minutes from exit 3 on the M32 . The successful candidate will ensure sub-assemblies are manufactured and installed correctly to specification and on time.

The role has arisen through growth, and the opportunity is in place for someone to develop exiting skills and learn new ones.

Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Fitter

  • Bench fitting work
  • Build of mechanical sub-assemblies  
  • Set-up & alignment of machine frames 
  • Set-up and alignment of tooling, to achieve specified tolerances/capability
  • Functional testing and fault finding

 Use of conventional machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc) and hand tools as

  • appropriate
  • Identify & communicate opportunities to enhance quality and reduce cost
  • Support visits to customers as required to commission & test machines, and resolve problems
  • Work with and support other departments to ensure business objectives are achieved
  • Ensure statutory and company procedures & practices are maintained
  • Promote a safe working environment 
  • Booking of time to assigned work

Qualifications & Requirements – Mechanical Fitter

  • Completed recognised mechanical apprenticeship or national technical training programme
  • City & Guilds or NVQ qualification
  • Good working knowledge of machine build protocols, preferably gained within a packaging
  • machinery environment 
  • Knowledge of robotic systems would be an advantage
  • Current clean driving license and passport

• Degree in relevant engineering discipline (electrical, electronic etc.)
• Experience of FPGA design using VHDL.
• Experience of hands-on digital board level design, manufacturing experience, and fault-finding during tests
• Experience on presentation and discussion of technical material to/with a technical audience is essential
• Knowledge of FPGAs.

• Develop and manage analytical models for structures and subsystems using FEA, performing static, dynamic, and quasi-static analyses to validate numerical results with test data and determine structural margins of safety.
• Refine numerical models to ensure alignment with experimental data.
• Derive environmental envelope specifications from launch documentation, analytical results, and test data.
• Manage structural and system mass properties including mass, centre of gravity and moments/ products of inertia.
• Define, organise, and lead structural testing (vibration, static, acoustic, shock, and mass properties)
• Maintain design/analysis logs, document analysis activities, and write test and compliance reports.
• Present work at internal and external reviews, ensuring effective communication and reporting.

Experience/Qualifications – Senior Structural and Mechanical Systems Engineer

• Degree in relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, mechatronic etc.)
• Experience of Nastran, HyperMesh, SmartOffice, MATLAB, Ansys Workbench, SolidWorks
• Analysis of both lightweight metallic and composite materials to provide margin of safety/reserve factors using a combination of hand stressing and FEA.
• Experience of spacecraft level static, dynamic and thermo-elastic analysis using the latest FEA tools.
• Experience of mechanical testing such as vibration, static and shock.
