Job Purpose

To lead the development, implementation, and management of health and safety policies and procedures within the engineering and aerospace environment. The role ensures compliance with relevant legislation, promotes a positive safety culture, and minimises risks to employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures aligned with current legislation and best practise.Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across all operational areas to identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures.Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on health and safety matters, ensuring awareness and understanding across the organisation.Coordinate health and safety training programmes to ensure all personnel meet statutory requirements and internal standards.Monitor and report on health and safety performance using key performance indicators and suggest continuous improvements.Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and contractors to ensure compliance and best practise standards.Ensure that emergency procedures and contingency plans are in place, regularly reviewed, and tested.Promote a proactive health and safety culture that encourages employee engagement and participation.Manage health and safety documentation, records, and licences to ensure accuracy and accessibility.

Required Qualifications

NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent recognised qualification.Valid First Aid certification is desirable.

Education

A degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

Experience

Proven experience in a health and safety managerial role within the engineering or aerospace sectors.Demonstrable experience of conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and accident investigations.Experience of working with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).Track record of successfully implementing health and safety management systems in compliance with ISO 45001 or similar standards.

Knowledge and Skills

Comprehensive understanding of UK health and safety legislation and best practises.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and engaging personnel at all levels.Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a part-time capacity.Competence in producing clear, concise reports and maintaining accurate documentation.Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications and health and safety management software.

Preferred Qualifications

Membership of a recognised professional body such as the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or the British Safety Council.Additional qualifications or training in environmental management or quality assurance.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily office-based with frequent site inspections in operational and engineering environments.The role requires adherence to personal protective equipment protocols and compliance with site-specific safety rules.Part-time hours offer flexibility but may require occasional attendance outside standard working hours for audits or incident investigations.

Calibration & Equipment

• Own the inspection equipment calibration process, ensuring equipment remains within calibration and is fit for purpose.

• Maintain effective control and traceability of measurement equipment and calibration records.

• Manage external calibration requirements and investigate out-of-calibration situations.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure inspection activities comply with company procedures, customer requirements and applicable aerospace standards.

• Maintain high standards of product quality, traceability and inspection records.

• Support non-conformance investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Support internal, customer and regulatory audits.

• Ensure quality or measurement risks are identified and escalated appropriately.

Development & Continuous Improvement

• Own the competency and development of the Inspection Team.

• Maintain skills matrices and identify training and development requirements.

• Develop inspection capability through structured training, mentoring and succession planning.

• Drive improvements in inspection efficiency, lead times, processes and methods.

• Promote Lean, 5S and continuous improvement within the inspection function.

 I am looking for an experienced Engineering Quality Inspector, a renowned precision engineering business who are looking for a skilled Inspector to join their expanding team. The successful candidate for the Quality Inspector vacancy will be responsible for operating Mitutoyo CMM and inspection of all finished machined parts against the design intent.  Additionally, they will be responsible for ensuring that products meet customer specifications and that production batch quantities are maintained.

Key responsibilities – Quality Inspector

In this role you will be responsible for a variety of inspection on all machined parts against the design intent. This will be to meet customer expectations and specifications so that they are maintained at the highest level.

Other responsibilities include:

To carry out First Article/First Off inspection for components that require going through the CMM.Using Measuring equipment to establish the specification of sizes, cylindricity and concentricity.Confident decision-making to sign off parts.Assist QA Lead in investigating Non-Conformance (NCR), Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and customer complaints.Read, interpret and understand Engineering drawings, standards, geometrical tolerances and surface finishes.Ensure that there are detailed inspection plans for all parts and that such plans are issue controlled; this includes CMM programsWorking closely with Production to ensure that quantities are met.Carrying out random Patrol Inspections.

Experience or Qualifications –

Previous experience in a Quality Inspection role within a machine shop environmentKnowledge of operating medium/large CMM machines.Experience of Mitutoyo CMM Measuring (Desirable).Experience working within a medical/aerospace industry (Desirable).Experience using precision measuring equipment i.e. Mitutoyo Roundness Test, Micrometers, Vernier’s, Height Gauges, Micrometers and Shadow Graphs.High Level of Detection.Comfortable working to deadlines and tight tolerances.Experienced working in a fast-paced environment.Computer literate.Team player.Good attention to detail.Pride in work.Safe and efficient approach to work.Able to work to relevant H&S standards.Able to read and correctly interpret close tolerance engineering drawings and geometric tolerances (GDT).Ability to multi-task and prioritise.
