Shift Pattern: 4 x 4 shift working (12 hours), 2 days and 2 nights on rotation

What you'll be doing:

Advise and assist the design, installation and commissioning of projects and small initiativesEnsure that plant and equipment systems perform to manufacture product efficiently to high quality standardsAssist with training and support of non-electrically biased engineers and electrical engineers wishing to improve their knowledge of automated machinerySupport the engineering and manufacturing functions ensuring maximum utilisation of engineering equipment to achieve KPIs and optimal line efficiency within the company safety, quality & environmental policiesContribute to and help implement continuous improvement, to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reductionHelping to transform the engineering maintenance strategy from a breakdown philosophy to a Right First Time, proactive philosophy

 

What we need from you:

Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in engineering for example - Level 3 Electrical/electronic engineering or similarPrevious experience of automated manufacturing environments. A working understanding of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic technical manuals & drawings

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our engineering team based in Gloucester. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and components that meet operational requirements and comply with relevant standards. This role demands a detailed-oriented professional who can manage projects from concept through to completion within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• The electrical design of standard and special purpose machines, examples of which are, but not limited to:

Lead plate feeders and stackersLead casting machinesAssembly and test machines for batteriesRobot loading and machining cells

• Carry out detailed electrical design working to in house machine sales document and customers specifications document(s) (SSOW)

Electrical schematicsDetailed cabinet layoutsParts lists (BOM)Termination listsElectrical documentation detailing the spec of the machine  Working closely with the mechanical & software departments ensuring the machine meets customer specifications. Aware and capable to carry out risk assessments for safety regulations and CE compliance. Responsible for electrical component selection taking into consideration standardisation, obsolescence, availability and cost. Responsible for preparing and presenting electrical designs at design reviews. Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures. Highlight all electrical/technical risks to the Controls System Manager / Mechanical Team Managers. Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques, electrical components and drawing standards. Liaise with other departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner. Responsible for generation of electrical drawings and bills of materials. Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner. Available for onsite customer support (presentations and fault finding) as required.

Experience

Minimum of three years’ experience in electrical design within an engineering or manufacturing environment.Proven experience in designing electrical control systems, wiring diagrams, and circuit layouts.Experience with design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar tools.Familiarity with relevant British and European electrical standards and regulations.

Requirements and Qualifications

Proven ability to understand/produce technical drawings.Ability to co-ordinate with the other discipline Engineers (mechanical, pneumatics andsoftware) within the department to produce multidisciplinary design solutions.Able to report electrical design status on the assigned tasks whenever asked.Ensure the electrical design functionally meets the user’s requirements.Produce designs to specified deadlines and achieve the required timescales.Confident, proactive character, with ability to take the lead in challenging situations.Self-motivated and enthusiasticGood communication skills, dealing with other employees and external clients at all levels.Excellent IT skills, especially AutoCad Electrical.Good written communication skills.Good team player • Effective problem-solving capabilitiesCommitted to undertaking professional development.Ability to work to tight deadlines.Full passport with ability to travel internationally for occasional customer visits.

Preferred Qualifications

Membership of a recognised professional institution such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent.Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and control system integration.Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to electrical engineering.Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.

A leading automotive lighting manufacturer supplying luxury and supercar brands is seeking an Industrial Engineer to join its Manufacturing team. This role is responsible for delivering and continuously improving manufacturing products and processes, ensuring they meet both company and customer expectations for quality, efficiency, and performance. Working as part of the Series Manufacturing team, the successful candidate will focus on process optimisation, capacity planning, continuous improvement, and supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities through to Start of Production (SOP). The role requires a hands-on approach, working closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to drive operational excellence and support business growth. 

Key Responsibilities – Industrial Engineer 

Conduct time studies and motion analysis across production operations to establish and validate standard times. Analyse manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and cost performance. Lead continuous improvement activities across manufacturing operations. Support ergonomics reviews and workstation improvements to reduce operator risk and improve workplace efficiency. Drive initiatives that support Right First Time performance and overall manufacturing excellence.

Industrial Engineering & Capacity Planning:

Design and optimise factory layouts to improve workflow, reduce material movement, and eliminate bottlenecks. Analyse production capacity and resource utilisation to identify future manufacturing requirements. Develop solutions to address capacity constraints through efficiency improvements or capital investment. Manage capital equipment justification activities and support implementation projects. Coordinate engineering changes within production processes, including impact assessments and implementation activities.

Documentation & Process Control:

Develop, maintain, and improve standard work documentation, including work instructions, training records, and cycle time standards. Support process documentation updates following engineering and product changes. Ensure manufacturing documentation accurately reflects current production methods and best practices. Support process audits and continuous improvement reviews.

NPI & Product Launch Support:

Support New Product Introduction (NPI) build phases through to Start of Production (SOP). Control and coordinate all phase builds and testing activities alongside NPI Engineers. Participate in hands-on product builds and provide feedback to improve manufacturing readiness. Develop and support manufacturing processes for new products. Ensure the correct availability of components and materials for phase build activities. Support Quality Engineering teams with defect investigations and root cause analysis activities.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures. Adhere to electrical regulations and manufacturing compliance requirements. Support and maintain high standards of housekeeping through 5S methodologies. Promote a safe, organised, and efficient working environment.

Qualifications & Requirements – Industrial Engineer

Degree in Engineering, HNC/HND qualification, or equivalent industry experience. Understanding and practical application of MTM (Methods-Time Measurement). Experience with manufacturing equipment programming, troubleshooting, and investigation. Experience within a manufacturing, production engineering, or industrial engineering environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good literacy, numeracy, and computer skills. Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail. Effective communication skills with the ability to work across multiple teams. Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
