Contract: Permanent

Role Overview – Junior Sales Engineer

Are you a technically minded engineer who enjoys applying engineering principles to customer applications and supporting projects from concept through to delivery?

Our client, a leading engineering solutions provider based in Cirencester, is seeking a Junior Sales Engineer to join their growing team. This role is engineering‑first, focused on technical application support, solution development, and system understanding, with sales activity built around providing the right technical answer rather than high‑pressure selling.

You will act as the internal technical authority for customers within a defined region, working closely with external Area Sales Managers, design engineers, and systems specialists to ensure solutions are accurate, feasible, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities – Junior Sales Engineer

  • Take ownership of the technical sales process within your assigned region, ensuring all solutions are correctly engineered and technically compliant.
  • Serve as the primary internal technical contact for customers, providing accurate advice on product selection, system configuration, and application suitability.
  • Prepare detailed, technically accurate quotations and process orders, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and customer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with design, systems, and applications engineers to develop bespoke or application‑specific solutions.
  • Analyse customer requirements, drawings, and specifications to resolve technical queries or discrepancies.
  • Maintain and develop deep knowledge of product capabilities, technical limitations, and industry applications.
  • Support Area Sales Managers during customer meetings, site visits, and demonstrations by providing engineering insight and technical credibility.
  • Identify opportunities where alternative designs, system improvements, or new component developments (NCD) can add value to customer applications.
  • Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation and project data within CRM systems.
  • Share technical learnings, successful applications, and field feedback to improve products and internal processes.

Key Experience & Qualifications – Junior Sales Engineer

  • Apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience or strong interest in process automation, control systems, industrial equipment, or engineered solutions.
  • Comfortable interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Previous experience in a technical sales, applications engineering, or customer‑facing engineering role is desirable.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non‑engineers.
  • Organised, detail‑focused, and technically curious, with a practical, solutions‑driven mindset.

Benefits – Junior Sales Engineer

  • Hybrid working: 3 days office / 2 days remote (Wednesday office mandatory).
  • Company pension scheme starting at 8%.
  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • Death in Service benefit (4x salary).
