Role Overview – Engineering Tutor

Our client, a well-established independent training provider based in Gloucester, is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Tutor to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist looking to utilise their industry expertise in a rewarding training environment. Working with learners aged 16+ and apprentices at various stages of their development, you will play a key role in equipping the next generation of engineers with the practical skills, knowledge and confidence required to succeed within the manufacturing sector.

The successful candidate will possess strong conventional machining experience alongside the ability to independently programme, set and operate CNC machinery.

Key Responsibilities – Engineering Tutor

  • Deliver high-quality practical instruction to engineering learners and apprentices.
  • Train and support learners in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines and CNC machines.
  • Teach CNC programming, setting and operating techniques in line with current industry standards.
  • Demonstrate best practice in machining processes, tooling, engineering drawings and workshop safety.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback and technical guidance.
  • Encourage learner engagement and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain workshop equipment and resources to ensure a safe and effective training facility.
  • Support learners in achieving their qualifications and progressing into successful engineering careers.
  • Ensure all training activities comply with health and safety regulations.

Key Experience & Requirements – Engineering Tutor

  • Strong background within engineering machining and manufacturing.
  • Fully trained and proficient in operating manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Proven ability to programme, set and operate CNC machines independently.
  • CNC competency to a minimum Level 3 standard.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, materials and machining processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for developing and mentoring future engineering professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively within a workshop-based educational environment.
  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring or coaching experience.
  • Assessing or teaching qualifications.
  • Experience working with apprentices or young learners.
