Role Overview – Manufacturing Engineer

Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with strong CNC machining and CAM programming expertise? This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering organisation as they continue to develop and refine their precision machining capability.

As a CNC‑focused Manufacturing Engineer, you will take ownership of developing and optimising machining processes across complex components, working with advanced CNC equipment and industry‑leading CAM software. You’ll act as the technical specialist for CNC methods, tooling, fixturing, programming and machining standards, ensuring consistent quality, efficiency and right‑first‑time performance. This is an on‑site role based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, working within a state‑of‑the‑art advanced manufacturing environment with the benefit of a 4‑day working week (Mon–Thu).

Key Responsibilities – Manufacturing Engineer

  • Developing CNC machining processes and programs for new and existing components
  • Creating, modifying and optimising CNC toolpaths using Hypermill CAM
  • Defining machining sequences, cutting strategies and process optimisation plans
  • Selecting tooling, cutting parameters and designing fixturing solutions for complex geometries
  • Creating and maintaining detailed process documentation, work instructions and routings
  • Supporting machine shop operations with tooling validation, trial cuts and program prove‑outs
  • Troubleshooting machining issues and driving process resolutions on the shop floor
  • Reducing cycle times, scrap and rework through structured continuous‑improvement activity
  • Supporting the introduction and commissioning of new CNC machinery and technologies
  • Working with Industrial Engineering and Production Engineering to align machining processes to wider manufacturing needs
  • Ensuring machining processes meet required quality, safety and regulatory standards

Key Experience & Qualifications – Manufacturing Engineer

  • Strong CNC machining background in a precision engineering environment
  • Experience using Hypermill CAM for programming complex 3‑, 4‑ or 5‑axis toolpaths
  • Knowledge of CNC machining best practices, cutting theory and work‑holding principles
  • Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems for BOM and routing management
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and experience with machining optimisation
  • Hands‑on, collaborative approach with excellent communication skills
  • Engineering/technical qualification or relevant industry experience
  • Experience with composite machining (advantageous)
