Service / Commissioning Engineer

UK Based - Extensive Travel (UK, Europe & Overseas)

£38,000 Basic | OTE up to £60,000

Flexible working with regular travel & time away

Our client is a well-established engineering manufacturer supplying specialist industrial equipment worldwide. They are looking to strengthen their service team with an experienced Service / Commissioning Engineer to support installations, commissioning and aftersales service at customer sites.

Responsibilities - Service / Commissioning Engineer

  • Commission industrial equipment at customer sites in the UK, Europe and overseas
  • Carry out extended commissioning projects depending on plant size
  • Take full responsibility for on-site Health & Safety during service and commissioning
  • Liaise closely with customers, contractors and site engineers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Deliver operator and maintenance training to customers
  • Attend emergency breakdowns and planned service visits
  • Diagnose faults and ensure correct tools and spares are available
  • Build strong working relationships with customers at all levels
  • Produce clear written and verbal reports on progress and technical issues
  • Work independently, managing workload and priorities effectively
  • Participate in out-of-hours service support when required

Qualification / Experience - Service / Commissioning Engineer

  • Electrical engineering qualification (ONC/HNC, City & Guilds or equivalent)
  • Hands-on electrical engineering experience within an industrial environment
  • Broad engineering knowledge including mechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation
  • Comfortable working in potentially hazardous environments
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home
  • Previous international or overseas work experience advantageous

Our client, a global leader in advanced engineering and motion control solutions, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join their Wolverhampton site. This role focuses on the maintenance, upgrade, and sustainment of complex machinery and test equipment systems, with a strong emphasis on hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.

Working closely with both the Site Maintenance and Test Equipment Sustainment teams, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Technician

• Perform planned and reactive maintenance on machinery and test equipment systems
• Diagnose and resolve faults impacting production, quality, and efficiency
• Repair machinery and equipment down to component level, often with limited documentation
• Work across hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and control systems
• Maintain configuration and operational readiness of machinery and test systems
• Produce and maintain maintenance and fault-finding documentation
• Supervise and manage third-party contractors on-site
• Use maintenance management systems (e.g. Pirana) to track work and report outcomes
• Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and complete risk assessments
• Support internal and external quality audits
• Assist with Lean and site improvement initiatives
• Specify spare parts and support inventory management
• Contribute to safe systems of work including Lock, Tag, Try procedures

Qualifications & Requirements – Mechanical Technician

• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic Engineering or Maintenance (or equivalent)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience maintaining hydromechanical machinery or similar equipment
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
• Basic understanding of electrical principles
• Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Familiarity with maintenance systems such as Pirana or similar (desirable)
• Experience with JIRA or similar systems (advantageous)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems
• Additional certifications in areas such as Hydraulic Safety, PSSR, BFPA, NFPC, or Fluid Power are beneficial
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
