Position: Electrical Fitter

Location: Swindon

Working hours: 7:30am – 4pm Mon – Fri

We are currently seeking to recruit anElectrical Fitter to join the Equipment Support Facility, based in Swindon. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting electrical inspections of equipment returning from loan, producing survey reports, and ensuring that Portable Electrical Distribution equipment meets safety standards for field reuse.

Responsibilities of Electrical Fitter

  • Conduct electrical inspections cable / wire testing of equipment returning from loan and produce survey reports.
  • Identify time and spares required to bring Portable Electrical Distribution equipment to a satisfactory standard for safe field reuse.
  • Perform routine electrical testing, corrective maintenance, diagnostic fault finding, and equipment modifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety regulations, COSHH, Engineering Hygiene, Risk Assessments, and safe working practices in a hazardous environment.
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks aligned with your knowledge, experience, and position.

Requirements of Electrical Fitter

  • Experience in testing and fault finding on various electrical distribution equipment including but not limited to AVRs, starter motor, control panel, output circuit breaker.
  • Ability to anticipate, diagnose, and repair faults.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of Service Level Agreements (SLAs), service targets, objectives, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Strong customer care focus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, MS Teams), and the ability to learn new software systems.
  • Capable of completing essential paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities.
  • Must hold or be able to gain SC clearance.
  • Hold a nationally recognized certificated qualification and demonstrate knowledge and experience in electrical testing and maintenance.

Experience / Qualifications - Field Service Engineer (Switchgear)

Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Minimum 3 years' experience within a Field Service, Maintenance or Service Engineering environment.Strong knowledge of LV and/or MV switchgear systems and power distribution equipment.Experience carrying out fault finding, diagnostics, inspection and testing activities.Understanding of electrical safety procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.Full UK Driving Licence.Experience with OEM switchgear manufacturers or critical power infrastructure environments would be advantageous.

We are seeking to recruit a Mechanical/Electrical Fitter to join our multi-disciplinary Maintenance Team based in Swindon. The successful candidate will report to the maintenance manager providing general mechanical & electrical support to current and future UK MOD projects.

Role Responsibilities:

Perform all conventional aspects of mechanical & electrical technical support, including water, hydraulic and fuel.Able to read, interpret and fault-find using electrical and electronic wiring diagrams and schematics.Provide maintenance support work on packaged equipment, mainly for water treatment-related work.Perform inspections on new equipment and condition reports on recovered equipment from deployment.Plan, participate in, and report on equipment/system operation and be familiar of the water treatment chemicals.Inspect, maintain and produce detailed inspection reports on the equipment and able to manage junior technician.Supervise the interface between different packages of equipment to form a well-integrated complete system.Demonstrate an understanding of chemical handling and treatment processes where applicable.Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.Proven experience in the maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment.Experience working with pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulic systems and associated control equipment.Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics and technical documentation.Competent in Microsoft Office applications.Full UK driving licence.Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate UK Security Clearance.

Desirable:

Previous experience supporting MOD or defence-related equipment.Water treatment equipment experience.Knowledge of control systems and instrumentation.Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers or technicians.Familiarity with deployed, field-based or containerised equipment systems.

The role is based full time onsite in Swindon.

Job Role – Design Engineer

Reporting to the Product Development Manager the contract Design Engineer shall migrate existing AutoCAD drawing packages into SolidWorks. The role will involve creating, editing and managing 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings from existing product information, ensuring all outputs meet company standards and are suitable for subcontract manufacture.

Following initial training, the successful candidate will be expected to work independently, managing their workload with minimal supervision.

Duties – Design Engineer

• Convert existing AutoCAD drawings into SolidWorks models and drawings.
• Create accurate 3D CAD models from existing drawing information and established product range information.
• Produce 2D manufacturing drawings in accordance with company drawing standards and templates.
• Ensure all drawings contain the required information for subcontract manufacture.
• Review existing drawings and identify missing, inconsistent or unclear information.
• Maintain drawing quality, accuracy and revision control throughout the conversion process.
• Work efficiently to meet project deadlines and drawing completion targets.
• Follow documented procedures and established engineering standards.
• Liaise with the Engineering Development team where clarification is required.
• Organise and manage drawing files in accordance with company systems and practices.
• Provide regular progress updates on assigned work packages.

Experience/Qualifications – Design Engineer

• Experience using CAD software in a professional or educational environment.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Ability to interpret existing drawings and convert them into accurate CAD models
• Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Candidates who are currently a Design Engineer, Project Engineer, Development Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Draughts Person, CAD Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer could be suitable for this role.
