This is a hands-on role that combines practical installation and commissioning work with project leadership responsibilities, including planning, documentation, and managing timings/schedules. You will play a key role in delivering new equipment projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standardsResponsibilities – Lead Installation Engineer Examine project briefs and assess their feasibility.Specify new equipment and seek out competitive quotations.Collaborate closely with suppliers on equipment design requirements and optimal solutions.Advise senior management on realistic costs, timescales, and resources needed to deliver specific projects.Manage projects end-to-end from inception through to successful handover to production, focusing on safety, cost control, time management, and quality.This position is not solely office-based and requires a proactive, hands-on approach to installation, commissioning, and problem-solving on the shop floor.This list is by no means exhaustive, and you will be expected to contribute flexibly across engineering activities as required. Experience/Qualifications - Lead Installation Engineer Time-served engineer with an electrical bias – minimum HNC/HND level (or equivalent).Ideally hold a relevant Health & Safety qualification.Strong working knowledge of mechatronics, PLC technology, servo drives, and control systems (common in plastics processing equipment such as injection molding, extrusion, or automation systems).IT literate with competency in CAD – ideally 2D AutoCAD – and the ability to produce layout drawings.Proven experience in the safe installation and commissioning of new equipment/machinery.Strong supplier and contractor management skills.Experience in leading and supervising a small team.
