Maintenance Technician / Engineer

Location: West Midlands

Type: Permanent, Full-Time (3 Shift Rotation)

Salary: Competitive (DOE)

A leading manufacturing business is seeking a Maintenance Technician / Engineer to join their established engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional to support both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring production equipment runs safely, efficiently, and reliably across a busy 3-shift operation. The role will play a key part in improving equipment performance, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

 

Responsibilities - Maintenance Technician / Engineer

Carry out planned preventative maintenance to ensure production machinery and site equipment remain in safe, reliable working condition

Contribute to the development of maintenance schedules and continuous improvement activities to enhance equipment performance

Respond to breakdowns quickly and safely, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to minimise downtime

Ensure all equipment is left in a safe state, cordoning off incomplete work areas and following strict safe systems of work

Maintain accurate shift logs, complete maintenance documentation, and communicate clearly during shift handovers

Support the emergency response team, acting promptly and safely during environmental or equipment-related incidents

Maintain maintenance stores, ensure parts availability, and help drive improvements in spare parts control

Work collaboratively across engineering, production, and site teams, promoting strong housekeeping and 5S standards

Log all work completed on the maintenance computer system, completing PPM records and addressing any follow-up actions

 

Requirements - Maintenance Technician / Engineer

Qualified in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, or equivalent engineering qualification

Experience working with plastic injection moulding machinery and associated equipment

Strong understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical control systems

Minimum 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification

Excellent fault-finding abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving engineering problems

Ability to work independently or as part of a team within a fast-paced production environment

Ability to work safely and under pressure within a high-volume manufacturing environment

Strong communication skills with an approachable and supportive manner

High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping

Proactive, hands-on attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement
