Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Location: Bristol
Salary: Competitive
Contract: Permanent

Role Overview – Mechanical Engineer

Our client is an innovative technology company developing advanced systems designed to operate in some of the toughest engineering environments—extreme pressure, high temperature, heavy vibration, erosion, and corrosion. With expansion into the geothermal sector, they are growing their Mechanical Engineering team to support and enhance their established product range originally designed for oil & gas applications.

This role focuses on supporting the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical equipment. It is an analytically driven position, prioritising engineering calculations, design verification, and test support rather than complex CAD modelling. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, including a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer who will handle detailed modelling, while you contribute to design reviews, analytical validation, and hands-on testing activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 2+ years’ experience to build deeper capability in mechanical analysis, product testing, and engineering for harsh environments.

Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Engineer

  • Support the development, evaluation, and verification of mechanical components for downhole drilling equipment.
  • Perform engineering calculations to substantiate designs and assess structural integrity.
  • Assist in defining test plans and take an active role in testing to validate performance and reliability.
  • Review engineering drawings and documentation under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of test rigs, fixtures, and experimental setups.
  • Work with simulation specialists on FEA and CFD activities, helping to interpret analysis outcomes.
  • Support manufacturing teams and suppliers by helping to resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation including reports, specifications, and test records.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, software, and controls engineering.
  • Manage day-to-day tasks effectively to meet project deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Key Experience & Qualifications – Mechanical Engineer

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, analysis, testing, or product development.
  • Sound understanding of materials, mechanical loading, and structural behaviour.
  • Experience performing design validation through calculations; basic FEA experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to support or conduct static FEA (training and mentoring available).
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD tools (e.g., PTC Creo, SolidWorks) for model review.
  • Experience or strong interest in testing and validation of mechanical or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Exposure to oilfield, downhole, or harsh-environment equipment is desirable but not essential.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to take on analytical and hands-on engineering work.

Benefits – Mechanical Engineer

  • 25 days holiday + 8 public holidays
  • Private healthcare (after probation)
  • Life insurance
  • Gym membership discount
  • Retail vouchers
  • Regular team events
  • Professional development and training opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements
