Role Overview – CAD/CAM Programmer

We are seeking an experienced CNC CAD/CAM Programmer to join our clients precision engineering team. This role involves programming 3–5 axis CNC milling machines using advanced CAD/CAM software to deliver high-quality components efficiently and accurately. You’ll work closely with machining technicians and manufacturing engineers to develop robust processes, optimise tooling and fixturing, and drive continuous improvement across production.

Key Responsibilities – CAD/CAM Programmer

  • Generate and prove-out CNC programs for 3–5 axis milling machines to ensure first-time quality.
  • Support machining technicians with daily problem-solving and process improvements.
  • Produce detailed setup sheets and tooling documentation to ensure consistent machine setups.
  • Design and select tooling and fixtures to enhance machining capability and efficiency.
  • Deliver proven programs ahead of production schedules to maximise spindle uptime.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) projects and adhere to delivery timelines.
  • Assist the quality team with investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Key Experience & Qualifications – CAD/CAM Programmer

  • Strong offline programming experience within a precision engineering, aerospace, or automotive environment.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks, SolidCAM, VISI).
  • Skilled in programming and operating 3–5 axis CNC milling machines.
  • Good understanding of tooling, fixturing, and machining techniques for a range of metals.
  • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel).
  • Experience with Heidenhain controls
  • Fixture design and development experience.
  • Knowledge of APQP/PFMEA processes.
