Job Title: Customer Support Engineer

Location: Whitney

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000

Hours:  8am-4:40pm Mon – Thurs / 8am-1pm Fri

Role Purpose

The Customer Support Engineer provides technical support to customers and assists with service activities throughout the product lifecycle. The role supports customers with troubleshooting, repairs and technical enquiries while working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Test and Service teams to deliver excellent customer service.

The successful candidate will develop a strong product understanding and contribute to improving customer satisfaction by providing timely technical assistance and maintaining accurate service records.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Support

Respond to customer support enquiries via telephone, email and video calls.Assist customers with technical fault finding and product operation.Keep customers informed of progress and expected resolution times.Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers where appropriate.Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times.

Technical Support

Assist in diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.Support customers through structured troubleshooting procedures.Recommend replacement parts and repair options.Record faults and corrective actions accurately.Develop technical knowledge of products.

Service Administration

Maintain accurate support tickets and service records.Record labour, parts used and resolution details.Raise quotations for chargeable repairs and service work.Process support orders within Sage.Prepare shipping paperwork and route cards where required.

Continuous Improvement

Help maintain troubleshooting guides and technical documentation.Record recurring faults and report trends to the Support Manager.Suggest improvements to products, documentation and support processes.Assist with maintaining the technical knowledge database.

Product Support

Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing, Test and Sales when required.Assist with testing systems prior to shipment.Assist with software testing where required (no programming experience necessary).

Customer Care

Follow up customers after service work has been completed.Collect customer feedback.Identify opportunities for service work or product upgrades and pass them to the Support Manager or Sales team.

Qualifications & Experience

Engineering or Scientific background.A Levels, apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification. (desirable)Good mechanical aptitude.Experience in a customer support or service environment.Basic electrical fault-finding skills.Good computer literacy.Excellent communication skills.Strong organisational skills.

Senior Site Technician

Castle Donington

My client is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Site Technician to join the team and support operations at one of their busy distribution sites.

This is a key position responsible for delivering and supervising both planned and reactive maintenance activities, whilst supporting the Assistant Maintenance Manager with site communications and people management responsibilities.

This is a hands-on role, with at least 50% of your time spent carrying out maintenance tasks. You will be the first line of support for maintenance issues across your designated site and may be required to coordinate specialist contractors following initial investigations.

The purpose of this role is to deliver and supervise technical repairs and PPMs while ensuring all technical and compliance documentation is completed accurately and kept up to date, both electronically and manually.

You will work closely with site teams to monitor open jobs, planned maintenance schedules and compliance activities, ensuring all tasks are completed within agreed timescales and uploaded correctly to the Mercury system.

Key Responsibilities - Senior Site Technician

Supervise and complete Statutory and non-Statutory Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules within agreed timescales.Respond promptly and positively to service call requests from the Helpdesk, assessing requirements and carrying out repairs where necessary.Work closely with site operations teams to plan reactive and preventative maintenance activities.Maintain 100% site compliance and address any compliance-related issues.Attend site and regional meetings to discuss maintenance plans and coordinate operational requirements.Act as the primary point of contact for customers and 3PL providers on site.Ensure all maintenance paperwork and compliance documentation is completed accurately and uploaded to Mercury within required timescales.Identify non-repairable faults in plant and machinery and provide recommendations for replacement and quotations.Advise site management teams of maintenance issues that could impact operational performance.Carry out minor alterations and installations within technical competence and current regulations.Complete site surveys and reports as required by management.Manage and control site stock levels.Support the Assistant Maintenance Manager with return-to-work interviews, rota management and team development.Drive correct usage of the Mercury system across the site team and ensure all tasks are updated in real time.Participate in the on-call rota to provide 24/7 maintenance support coverage.

Qualifications & Experience - Senior Site Technician

Educated to GCSE / Standard Grade level as a minimum.NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation/Maintenance.3+ years' experience working with automated hanging systems (where site specific).Proven experience working with mechanical and pneumatic systems.Previous supervisory or team leadership experience would be advantageous.Strong understanding of planned and reactive maintenance practices.Ability to maintain excellent Health & Safety standards.Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive customer and colleague relationships.Demonstrable track record of delivering repairs and maintenance activities to a high standard.
