Our client are a leading manufacturer of plastics with sites across the UK, due to a continued drive for excellence they are seeking a project engineer to join their Rutland site. This is a hands-on role that combines practical installation and commissioning work with project leadership responsibilities, including planning, documentation, and managing timings/schedules. You will play a key role in delivering new equipment projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards

Responsibilities – Project Engineer

  • Examine project briefs and assess their feasibility.
  • Specify new equipment and seek out competitive quotations.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers on equipment design requirements and optimal solutions.
  • Advise senior management on realistic costs, timescales, and resources needed to deliver specific projects.
  • Manage projects end-to-end from inception through to successful handover to production, focusing on safety, cost control, time management, and quality.
  • This position is not solely office-based and requires a proactive, hands-on approach to installation, commissioning, and problem-solving on the shop floor.
  • This list is by no means exhaustive, and you will be expected to contribute flexibly across engineering activities as required.

Experience/Qualifications - Project Engineer

  • Time-served engineer with an electrical bias – minimum HNC/HND level (or equivalent).
  • Ideally hold a relevant Health & Safety qualification.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechatronics, PLC technology, servo drives, and control systems (common in plastics processing equipment such as injection molding, extrusion, or automation systems).
  • IT literate with competency in CAD – ideally 2D AutoCAD – and the ability to produce layout drawings.
  • Proven experience in the safe installation and commissioning of new equipment/machinery.
  • Strong supplier and contractor management skills.
  • Experience in leading and supervising a small team.
