Contract Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Multiskilled Engineer to join a dynamic team in Ashford, Kent, on a rolling contract basis, with a minimum commitment until December 2025. This role offers a competitive hourly rate of £40-£50 (Inside IR35) and is ideal for professionals with a background in FMCG or food manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.
  • Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and maintain high standards.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Multiskilled Expertise: Proficiency in both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines.
  • FMCG/Food Manufacturing Background: Experience in fast-moving consumer goods or food production environments is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of PLC systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated production machinery.
  • Fault Diagnosis: Strong ability to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent).
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Familiarity with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP) and workplace safety regulations.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
