Overview

My client, an innovative and forward-thinking manufacturing organisation, is looking for a skilled Quality Engineer to join their team in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in enhancing production quality, developing robust process controls, and supporting the introduction of new products and processes within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

You will play a key role in deploying the Business Management System, supporting new product and process introductions, and ensuring standardised methodologies are followed throughout the production facility.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Engineering & Process Control

  • Manage day-to-day Quality Engineering activities within the assigned value stream.
  • Apply standard Quality and Process Engineering tools to ensure accurate and consistent quality activity across the organisation.
  • Lead APQP implementation within the value stream.
  • Complete PFMEA and Control Plans for production processes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust process controls to support high product and process quality.
  • Monitor and analyse manufacturing data, identifying trends and recommending quality improvement actions.
  • Drive improvements in production quality performance.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to resolve process issues and improve OEE, including right-first-time performance.

New Product Introduction & Customer Quality

  • Support Quality Engineering tasks related to new product and process introductions.
  • Lead responses to customer quality concerns, using root cause analysis tools such as 8D, DMAIC, PPS, etc.
  • Lead MRB activities for production scrap and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage supplier quality issues within the value stream.
  • Conduct process capability studies, statistical analysis, and data-driven investigations.
  • Implement and maintain SPC methods to reduce variation and ensure consistent quality.

Compliance, Auditing & Continuous Improvement

  • Support and maintain the Business Management System within the Quality function.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of quality procedures and organisational policies.
  • Report routinely on Quality KPIs.
  • Support and contribute to annual improvement plans and Lean initiatives.
  • Manage and deliver internal and external audits as required.
  • Conduct laboratory testing for quality control of manufactured materials.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with Quality Management best practices, new technologies, and industry standards.

Other Responsibilities

  • Build strong working relationships within the production value stream.
  • Carry out any additional duties reasonably required in support of the Quality function.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive Quality experience within an AS9100 Rev D or ISO9001-regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, PSW, FAIR, ISIR, SPC, Control Plans, and related methodologies.
  • Experience with materials testing and laboratory quality control.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a high-pace manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.

  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Gantt charts, and Project Charters.

Other

  • Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel to customer or supplier sites at short notice.
