We are currently recruiting for a rapidly expanding renewables energy company that develops, designs, constructs and maintains renewable energy solutions for commercial and private clients.
Our client primarily work on ground mount and rooftop solar and batteries.
Role Responsibilities – Power Systems Design Manager
- Undertake and review detailed electrical design & calculations including AC/DC cable sizing, LV AC grading studies, cabinet and connection design
- Prepare and check Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical drawings, and predesign layouts (containment routing, elevations, etc.)
- Design, commission and support communication and monitoring systems, including onsite and remote support
- Support G99 and G100 applications, liaising with inverter manufacturers and ensuring compliance
- Produce Bills of Materials, costings, and Scopes of Works, ensuring technical and commercial alignment
- Lead and manage the internal design team, driving professional growth and overseeing all design projects with accountability and proactive problem-solving.
- Implement structured review processes and manage design variations through robust change control while ensuring quality assurance on-site and at final inspections.
- Coordinate with external subcontractors, suppliers, and manufacturers to maintain high standards, flexible programmes, and compliance with regulations.
- Provide technical support during construction, assist project management teams, and deliver clear communication to clients and stakeholders for seamless project handover.
The ideal candidate for Power Systems Design Manager role would have:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline; alternatively, HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering with substantial design and management experience
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- Proven experience with G99/G100 compliance and UK grid connection requirements
- Health & Safety certification (IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS) advantageous
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD)
- Strong technical expertise in electrical engineering within renewable energy (solar PV and batteries preferred)
- Proven experience in electrical design calculations, monitoring systems, and compliance with UK standards (G99/G100)
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a design team
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical quality with cost-efficiency
- Effective communicator, able to liaise confidently with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive, solution-focused approach
