Job Title: Extrusions Engineer

My client, a market leader in aluminium extrusion manufacturing, is seeking an Extrusions Engineer to join their leadership team in Yatton. This is a senior development role, designed for succession into the Head of Extrusions (HOE) position, responsible for leading a team of approximately 150 people across Press Operations, Die Shop, and Packing.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy manufacturing, with proven leadership experience, technical acumen, and a drive for continuous improvement. You will support and deputise for the current Head of Extrusions and work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operational teams to drive performance, quality, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities – Extrusions Engineer
- Work towards full appointment to Head of Extrusions role by learning all critical extrusion performance areas.
- Deputise for the CPO (Chief Production Officer) during periods of absence.
- Oversee and develop engineering strategy across the Extrusion department.
- Support the planning and execution of Capex projects and long-term equipment upgrades.
- Work cross-functionally with Press, Packing, Die Shop, and Maintenance teams.
- Analyse KPIs related to labour productivity, machine uptime, scrap, and running speeds.
- Support P&L decisions by understanding the financial impact of engineering operations.
- Lead initiatives in Continuous Improvement (CI), 5S, and Lean manufacturing.
- Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness.
- Be actively involved in shift reviews, Gemba walks, SIC meetings, and shop floor visibility.
Qualifications & Requirements – Extrusions Engineer
- Minimum of 10 years’ leadership experience in a heavy/large-scale manufacturing environment.
- Graduate qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering or a Science discipline.
- LEAN Six Sigma practitioner (Green Belt or above preferred).
- Experience with operational excellence tools (OEE, FMEA, TPM, etc.).
- Strong engineering and technical knowledge, ideally in aluminium extrusion or related fields.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and organisational skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to lead and influence teams at all levels.
- High personal standards with a passion for excellence and continuous improvement.
