Our client are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join their dynamic team in St Helens. As a Maintenance Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of customer-owned equipment, delivering high-quality maintenance, breakdown repairs, and engineering support. This Maintenance Engineer position is perfect for individuals passionate about maximizing equipment efficiency in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities - Maintenance Engineer
- Perform routine and planned maintenance on customer equipment, including daily, weekly, and monthly tests, ensuring accurate record-keeping
- Conduct timely breakdown repairs to minimize production downtime and maintain operational efficiency
- Proactively report equipment issues and faults, collaborating with team members, supervisors, and managers to resolve and close out jobs effectively
- Maintain detailed records of parts used, maintenance performed, and any remedial actions required
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and managers at shift changes to ensure seamless handover of completed and outstanding tasks
- Support small maintenance works on buildings as needed, ensuring a safe and tidy work environment
- Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting enhancements to working practices and sharing knowledge with colleagues
- Assist in ordering spare parts and maintaining organized stock locations
- Support the training and development of team members, including apprentices, to enhance department capabilities
- Work closely with customers to priorities workloads, balancing production needs with equipment maintenance and safety
Qualifications & Requirements - Maintenance Engineer
- Electrically competent with a mechanical background and experience in logical fault finding and electrical testing
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and understanding of wiring diagrams
- Ability to work safely, recognizing personal limits of experience and seeking assistance when needed
- Strong communication skills, with fluent English (spoken and written) for producing reports and interacting with colleagues and customers
- Equivalent qualifications to 5 GCSEs grades A-C (including Maths and English) or international equivalents to ensure inclusivity for candidates educated outside the UK
- Desirable: NEBOSH, IPAF, Confined Space, Working at Height, Manual Handling, or similar certifications
- Desirable: Experience with laundry equipment, steam plants, compressor plants, inverters, PLCs, or fluid power systems
- Desirable: Proven ability to train and develop others, including apprentices
