Design Engineer Gloucester Up to £40,000 + company car PermanentWill be required to Travel around the UK and potentially EuropeOur client is seeking a skilled Design Engineer to take responsibility for the design and costing of complex life safety and electronic security systems. This will include, but is not limited to: fire detection, voice alarm, disabled refuge, CCTV, access control, intercom, public address, structured cabling, and intruder systems. Key Responsibilities - Design Engineer
Support the Design Management team with sales enquiries and tendersDesign a range of life safety, security, and integrated building systems based on customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and current industry standardsPrepare proposals, quotations, and tender documents, ensuring all submissions are accurate, timely, and aligned with company standardsAssess security and fire risk factors, enhancing designs where required or providing feedback and recommendations to clientsEnsure all designs and quotations comply with relevant technical and regulatory standards (e.g., EN, BS, HTM) as well as BAFE/NSI Codes of PracticeAdhere to company policies regarding quality, health & safety, and false alarm managementProduce detailed CAD design and construction drawings, ensuring handovers are completed accurately and project deadlines are metTravel to client and supplier sites across the UK and Europe as required
Qualifications & Requirements - Design Engineer
Proven experience in the design of fire and security systemsStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to design systems, prepare cost sheets, and draft proposal documentsAbility to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholdersConfident in interpreting and working from specifications and technical drawingsHighly organised with excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and time management skillsDesirable Skills & ExperienceProficiency in AutoCAD software packagesUp-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, technical standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to system designFamiliarity with quality systems such as ISO9001, SSQS101, FSQS121Strong understanding of the construction industry and tendering processesPrevious experience working within a goal-driven, results-oriented environment
