Role Overview - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Our leading global engineering client are on the look out for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at their site based in Fareham. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing a number of solutions to execute requirements for both project needs across the aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Design and Develop engineering solutions to meet project requirements, including schedule, quality, and cost considerations, while adhering to company processes.
  • Work with internal and external customers, suppliers, and colleagues in mechanical, systems, and hardware disciplines to explain design decisions.
  • Manage formal requirements allocated to mechanical systems, validate these requirements according to industry standards, and demonstrate compliance through design descriptions and verification methods (e.g., testing, inspection, analysis).
  • Compile work estimates and plans to support project managers. Proactively track progress, update plans, and adapt as projects develop.
  • Mentor and develop apprentices, undergraduate interns, graduate engineers, and non-senior engineers to enhance their skills and increase department capacity. Lead the mechanical team by example, providing motivation and support as a subject matter expert.
  • Actively contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the department, including process improvements, tool enhancements, and efficient ways of working within industry regulations.

Key Experience & Requirements - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in a leadership role
  • Proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects from conception to completion
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, processes, and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and quality
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams and disciplines
  • Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers
