SHE Officer, HSE Advisor, Health & Safety Officer

Our client specialises in the fabrication, erection and protective treatment of high-quality steelwork for modular bridging throughout the UK, Europe and Globally . They deliver infrastructure solutions throughout the world. Their Manufacturing Facility is looking for a SHE Officer to support managers in achieving the aims of the organisation through the promotion of a safe and healthy working environment. They will also manage the environmental aspects and impacts on a day-to-day basis

The company would consider someone who enjoys the HSE part of their role and wants to progress into Health & Safety as a career. but doesn’t necessarily have a NEBOSH

Primary purpose of the position

  • To support managers in achieving the aims of the organisation through the promotion of a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Managing the environmental aspects and impacts on a day-to-day basis.
  • Is accountable for safeguarding and promoting the improvement of the physical and mental health and social well-being of employees and non-employees.
  • Is accountable for the successful operation of the SHE management systems on site.
  • Is accountable for supporting timely investigation and resolution of all accidents and near misses
  • Is accountable for identifying and organising some aspects of health and safety training.
  • To create, develop and improve a culture of safe working practice that aims for zero accidents or near misses.

Main responsibilities and duties of the position

  • Communicating all relevant SHE information clearly and in a timely fashion ensuring that information is available to key stakeholders and the workers affected.
  • Maintaining the health, safety and environmental policy and the associated arrangements and systems.
  • To conduct SHE audits.
  • To co-ordinate, facilitate and contribute to the hands-on planning, implementation, performance measurement, performance review and system audits of SHE policies, systems and arrangements.
  • To pro-actively improve the provision of SHE by actively encouraging feedback and involving employees and non-employees in discussions and implementation of any changes.
  • Direct and oversee the health and safety committee (RoES Team).
  • Liaise with any specialist advisors involved in contributing to organisational SHE provisions.
  • To collate and maintain statistics resulting from all leading and lagging indicators relevant to SHE arrangements.
  • Maintain clear training records and ensure all relevant certification is up to date for any training provided.
  • Promote awareness of Hazards and Risks to all employees.
  • Recommend, advise and help Implement necessary controls to reduce residual risks.
  • Support the business improvement objectives by participation within the improvement plan and associated objectives.
  • Support the organisations commitment to sustainability, greenhouse gas reductions and environmental policies.
  • Promote employee wellbeing by contributing to safe systems of work and engagement on a one-to-one basis daily with colleagues.


  • Accountable for delivering and/or facilitating some aspects of HSE training.
  • Responsible for driving cultural change and individual accountability regarding HSE.
  • To advise senior management of EHS legislation changes and how it will impact the business.
  • To ensure effective cost management across SHE responsibilities.

Education and Training

  • Health & Safety training to NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent but hands-on knowledge and experience will be considered.
  • IEMA qualification or experience of environmental management would be advantageous.
  • Must be computer literate, particularly MS Office packages.
