Fleet Engineer

Our client are a market leading fleet management and leasing company, they are seeking a fleet engineer to join their growing team. The successful candidate will cover the Midlands and North of England ensuring the garage network is performing to company standards.


  • Be accountable for the performance of the vendors and address issues and complaints from customers or staff regarding repairer performance promptly and conclusively to the satisfaction of the company and our customers, updating all parties as necessary.
  • Identify and recruit quality HGV, LCV and ancillary equipment vendors able to meet or exceed the requirements detailed in our Service Level Agreements and deliver service to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Negotiate advantageous terms with the network, reviewing these periodically to ensure competitiveness.
  • Optimise the size of the repair networks, ensuring sufficient coverage, and respond rapidly to address any geographical gaps when a demand occurs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with repairers, manufacturers, and specialist parts and service providers.
  • Communicate effectively with repairers, customers, management and internal teams, ensuring all stakeholders are appropriately aware of developments, progress, and changes that may have any impact on the business.
  • Conduct thorough vendor audits frequently, and post-repair vehicle inspections, meeting or exceeding prescribed volume requirements.
  • Perform thorough investigations relating to MOT failures and work quality concerns, and submit detailed reports within prescribed timeframes, liaising with vendor and customer as appropriate.
  • Ensure each vehicle/asset is defaulted to a repairer who provides the best service, repair & maintenance solution, proposing & managing change of repairer on agreement.

Education and/or Training:

  • A good general level of education is required
  • Mechanical qualifications to NVQ Level or equivalent
  • CPC holder
  • Adept in the use of a PC, internet and email and able to grasp new software applications easily and quickly. Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook to an intermediate level

Relevant Work Experience:

  • Extensive and proven experience in negotiating best in class terms and service levels and be highly skilled in managing Commercial Vehicle and Ancillary Equipment networks
  • Experience with and detailed understanding of the workings and operation of commercial service, inspection, maintenance and repair operations
  • A thorough knowledge of regulatory compliance in relation to HGV and ancillary equipment
  • Established contacts with vehicle and equipment manufacturers and service agents
  • Proven ability of interaction with Fleet Operators at all levels
  • Experience using computer systems including Microsoft packages
  • An up to date awareness of the developments and technologies in the Commercial Vehicle market
