Client Overview
The FMT Group is a leading and experienced European service provider for the installation and servicing of industrial plants. They work is renowned for quality and reliability with the highest degree of safety and they have delivered efficient and reliable projects to their customers for over 30 years.

The Challenge
Severn Power is building a £400m, 800MW CCGT power station near Newport, South Wales. The new CCGT will operate next to the 360MW coal fired Uskmouth power plant on brownfield land and using existing grid connection infrastructure.

The new plant is due to start production in 2010 after a 30 month construction period and four months of commissioning.

Siemens is managing the design, engineering, construction and commissioning of the plant and has chosen FMT to perform the installation of the “power island”.

The Solution
The client sought the assistance Omega Energy Service (an approved ECIA employment business) as the number of workers required for the project meant that FMT needed to supplement their own workforce with additional skilled labour.

Omega worked with Siemens, FMT and the local job centre to organise job fairs, assessment days and interviews in search of a variety of skills including Certified Welders, Pipefitters, Riggers, Insulators, Supervisors and Administrators and they successfully recruited local workers for all positions.

The Outcome
Omega successfully supplied a competent workforce which has integrated well with FMT’s full-time Austrian employees.

Not only has FMT benefited from Omega’s high quality recruitment service, but also from the ongoing management of our supplied employees, which includes: auditable payroll, worker performance, bonus payments, lodge/travel co-ordination, disciplinary and contract termination - all conducted in compliance with the NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry). All this has involved Omega working with the client, the managing contractor, the unions, the ECIA (Engineering Construction Industry Association) and the site auditors.

All involved parties have enjoyed a successful relationship with Omega.
